J.D. currently concentrates his practice on performing title work and giving title opinions in connection with commercial real estate deals throughout North Carolina. He also represents Mecklenburg County in property tax foreclosure actions. He has been licensed in North Carolina since 1999 and has spent his entire 25-plus year career with Ruff, Bond, Cobb, Wade & Bethune, LLP. He is a graduate of Davidson College (B.A., 1996) and the University of North Carolina School of Law (J.D., 1999). J.D. serves on the Board of Directors for Lawyers Mutual Liability Insurance Company of North Carolina, has served on the Boards of The Salvation Army of Greater Charlotte and Friends of Accion, Inc. (supporting Accion Ministries), and was Treasurer of the Mecklenburg Optimist Club for over a decade. He is an active congregant and Elder of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Charlotte as well as a member of the Rotary Club of Charlotte. J.D. is a frequent volunteer with NourishUp, Habitat for Humanity, and various other non-profits, and was awarded the Mecklenburg Ministries “Bridge Builder” award in 2025 in recognition of his service to the community.
